I’m not one of those “the front office is so stupid, they should just _____________” fans, and I’ve generally defended the Blue Jays front office as a lot their moves have been good, but not being able to extend Vladdy given the $$$ we were offering FAs might end up being a franchise-altering fumble. ⚾

I co-wrote a sports trivia newsletter with a friend for a few years but eventually life got in the way and we had to go on hiatus. This weekend we’re meeting up to discuss a revival and I couldn’t be more excited.

I know everything seems really dark and fucked up, and it is, but the mere thought that I may get to go to my home ballpark, on, say, a Sunday afternoon, and watch Max Scherzer pitch while wearing my team’s jersey fills me with a strange kind of joy. ⚾

It’s lame that the Dodgers got Sasaki, but the way people seem to be upset about how the team with the most money has a huge advantage over the teams with less suggests they don’t know how America works. ⚾️

Somehow, losing Bob Uecker and David Lynch on the same day makes thematic sense. Both were true originals who coloured outside the lines and not only were they not punished for it, they were celebrated. There’s a lesson there, but I’m not sure it is applicable to our terrifying present.

Baseball just lost a real one. ⚾️

The number of times I’ve read the (untrue) Rickey/Olerud story over the last few days is wild. I get it. It’s fun. But sports discourse on social is generally bad because it’s just cOnTeNt now. Reposts of reposts, bad takes, bad faith takes. Especially the recent 🏀 stuff.

Rickey played a cautious sport with abandon. Rickey played a timid sport with flash. Rickey irritated and thrilled and frustrated and dominated and left us all wanting more.
