@brooksrocco.bsky.social shoulda left this one in drafts my guy
@katysaint.bsky.social I don't think Americans (I'm assuming you're American) get how fully American sports media tends to ignore players on the Jays/Raptors. Mainstream NBA media seemingly only realized how good Anunoby and Siakam were after Toronto traded them. The Raps were good for ages! They won a chip!
@katysaint.bsky.social As mentioned, I'm a Jays fan. I grew up thinking I was crazy because no one seemed to understand Dave Stieb was one of the best SP in the game. When I got older, I was like, "well, I'm a homer, of course I thought that." Then, older still, I realized I was right. And still do. Put him in the HOF!
@combatdavey.bsky.social There are a handful of guys per generation whose outsize personalities almost make you forget about how good they were on the court/field/ice/diamond. He was one of them for sure.
@combatdavey.bsky.social It's so good. You'll love it, and the memories will flood back. I am/was a Blue Jays fan, so I had a complicated relationship with Rickey, but, as always, icons rise above partisan fandom.
@amanwithglasses Exactly. You can only experience something for the first time… once. And maybe that’s not even the best time, maybe you understand or appreciate more after a few rewatches/rereads, but still, nothing hits quite like that first time.
@combatdavey.bsky.social You might be onto something
@combatdavey.bsky.social Ack, forgot to tag #nba on that one
@ndreas Thanks! And I’m sure I’ll find them. It’s just going to take a minute.
@cheesemaker I actually like those. If you watch both, you see things in the second game that are a direct response to something that happened in the first. And then you get to yell things like "they know that back cut is coming!" and "they know you can't block that shot!" at the TV.
